What is the War Crimes Investigations Unit?

Our War Crimes Investigations Unit is a new department at the Kyiv Independent that is conducting investigations into war crimes and Russian atrocities in Ukraine.
The unit, led by some of Ukraine’s top investigative journalists, will produce documentaries that will uncover war crimes committed during Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
Why dedicate an entire team to that?

Russian forces have allegedly committed over 80,000 war crimes since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, according to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.

The War Crimes Investigations Unit is working to tell personal stories and shed light on the suffering behind Russia's war crimes, committed on a massive scale.

Our team will provide in-depth investigations to help the victims seek justice, law enforcement gather evidence, and readers understand the horrors of Russia's brutal invasion.
