Amadeusz Świerk

Amadeusz Świerk is a documentary photographer based in Wrocław, Poland. His work is often oriented on minorities — social, ethnic, religious — and based on genuine experience of other human, culture and society. Amadeusz tries to raise awareness about the excluded and the underrepresented by going beyond appearances. His works have been published in Guardian, Zeit, Polish Press and Pismo Magazines, and in Ukrainian Kyiv Independent, among others. He worked in Europe, Middle-East, Asia and Africa.

KUPIANSK, KHARKIV OBLAST – Just 40 kilometers away from the Russian border, in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv Oblast, stands a small town scarred by months of occupation and ongoing relentless shelling. Once home to about 27,000 people, Kupiansk now has only about 20% of its pre-war population left. Some 5,500 people stubbornly refuse to leave Kupiansk, even though the Ukrainian
